This is a comprehensive workshop hosted by Armoured Performance in association with Setanta College.
From the presentations and practicals attendees will learn:
What are the physical demands placed on players during a game of hurling?
How should we train to create fit & conditioned hurlers?
How can we improve a player's strength & power and transfer it to on-pitch performance?
How can we optimally develop the young hurler?
From the presentations and practicals attendees will learn:
What are the physical demands placed on players during a game of hurling?
- What the research says.
- How best to train for the game of hurling.
How should we train to create fit & conditioned hurlers?
- What are the different energy systems used in hurling.
- How can we train to optimally develop each energy pathway.
- How does conditioning fit into an overall Hurling Pre-Season plan.
- What are the different conditioning strategies we can use with Hurlers.
How can we improve a player's strength & power and transfer it to on-pitch performance?
- What can improvements in strength & power mean to the overall improvement of the hurler.
- How do we address the differences between training for strength and power.
- What are the practical programming points for developing strength and power across a team.
- What different strategies can we use to maximise time and space as well as optimise training when doing a gym session with a team.
How can we optimally develop the young hurler?
- What are the specific issues we need to deal with when training youth teams and athletes.
- What effect does growth spurts and differing levels of maturation have on training.
- How do movement skills fit in with an overall development plan.
- What are the practical approaches we can use to train kids and youth teams.
Our Presenters and Topics:
Damien Young
LIT/Setanta College Lecturer
Performance Analyst to Tipperary Senior Hurlers
Former Tipperary Minor Hurling Coach
Currently completing a PhD in the area of the Physical Demands of Hurling
Level 2 Coaching Ireland Tutor
Damien has published numerous articles in well respected sports science journals and will provide an insight into what is actually happening in the game itself in terms of the physical demands. Damien's talk will highlight the physical demands of hurling. What are the match-play running demands of inter-county hurling? Are U17, U21 and senior running demands different? Are positional running demands different and are they different at each level? This presentation will provide the latest research findings in the match-play running demands of inter-county hurling.
